Editorial cut revisions often change event numbers, so comparing by event number alone creates noise. This tool compares VFX events by normalized shot identity and reports the changes a supervisor or coordinator needs to send downstream.

Use it when a new cut arrives and you need to know which VFX shots were added, removed, trimmed, shifted in sequence time, retimed, or changed by an effect line.

What the VFX Report Checks

The parser reads video EDL events, clip names, source files, FROM/TO clip names, locators, transition metadata, and effect-style lines such as M2, TIMEWARP, and AVX2 EFFECT. It then filters to your shot naming convention before comparing cut versions.

Duplicate shot names are matched occurrence-by-occurrence using order and nearby source/record timecode. Ambiguous matches are flagged for review instead of being hidden.

VFX Shot Change Questions

How should I filter shot names? Use contains patterns for simple naming conventions such as COMP, TEMP, or VFX. Use regex when your facility has a stricter code, such as ^SHW_\\d{3}$.

What changes are detected? The report flags added shots, removed shots, source frame changes, record start/end moves, duration changes, effect additions, removals, and changed effect metadata.

What does review confidence mean? Review means the tool found a likely match but there were duplicate names, missing names, or similar timing candidates. Those rows should be checked before sending a vendor update.

Are files uploaded? No. EDL parsing and comparison run locally in the browser. The API is only used for quota checks and usage logging.
